What fails on it
- Convection pressed too soon Starting the fan before preheat ends can push the flame off the burner to where it cannot be sensed, and the oven shuts down. Not a fault, and the one to rule out first.
- Igniter that cannot confirm flame Residue or wear on the igniter at the burner means a flame that is burning goes unrecognised, so the attempt is abandoned moments after it seemed to work.
- Wiring or connection fault A chafed igniter lead or a connection that has worked loose gives the same symptom as a worn igniter, and only testing on the visit separates the two.
- Ignition board failing The board that manages lighting can itself stop reading the flame properly. It is suspected after the igniter and wiring test clean, not before.
Lit, then out: what the oven is doing
Lighting a GR oven is a two-part job. The igniter clicks until gas at the burner takes, and then the control has to confirm that the flame is really there. If it cannot, it treats the oven as unlit and stops.
Two failures in a row and it locks out, with the indicator flashing slowly, until the knob is turned off and on. So an oven that catches and then dies usually has a flame that is lit but going unseen.
What to try yourself, and where to stop
Start a bake without convection and give it the whole preheat; if it now holds its flame, the fan timing was the cause. After a lock-out, one reset is reasonable. If nothing at all happens when the knob is turned, check the breaker, since the ignition runs on household power.
The burner, the igniter lead, the oven floor and the gas connection are for the visit. If you smell gas, do not touch a switch; get outside and call the gas utility, or 911 if you cannot reach it.

- Most likely the fan went on before preheat had finished. Wolf warns that a fan running before preheat ends can make the oven shut itself off. Its advice is to set the temperature, wait for the indicator light to go out, and only then press the convection button.
- What does a slowly flashing oven light on a GR366 mean?
- The oven tried to light twice, could not confirm a flame either time, and locked itself out as a safety measure. Turn the knob off, then back on, once. If it locks out again, leave it off and call Wolf Repair Bellevue, (425) 629-0033, rather than resetting it over and over.
